How does the Bible answer this question...
"What does it take for a
person to go to Heaven?"

Home page

A single word can be used to answer this question..."faith"
...F.A.I.T.H.

Read on as we use this acrostic to reveal God's answers in the Bible:

F....is for Forgiveness
We cannot have eternal life and heaven without God's forgiveness.

The bible says, "In Him (meaning Jesus) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins" - Ephesians 1:7a, New King James Version (NKJV)

On to A

A ....is for Available
Forgiveness is available.

It is AVAILABLE FOR ALL...

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" - John 3:16, NKJV

However, forgiveness is NOT AUTOMATIC

Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord', shall enter the kingdom of heaven" - Matthew 7:21a, NKJV

Why is it not automatic?....the answer is in I

I....is for Impossible.
It is impossible for God to allow sin into heaven.

-God is: LOVE
(see John 3:16 above)

-He is also JUST
"For judgement is without mercy" - James 2:13a, NKJV.

The problem?
-MAN IS SINFUL
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" - Romans 3:23, NKJV.

This begs the question: How can a sinful person enter heaven, where God allows no sin?

T....stands for Turn.

Think about this: If you are driving down the road with someone and they ask you to turn, what would they be asking you to do?   Change direction, right?  So it is with God.

Turn means to repent. To change the direction of your life.

We must:

TURN from something- sin and self.
"But unless you repent you will all likewise perish" - Luke 13:3b, NKJV.

and TURN to Someone; trust Jesus Christ only.
The bible tells us, "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures" - 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4, NKJV.

Now, look at this from the bible, "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" - Romans 10:9, NKJV.

Which brings us to... H.

H....is for Heaven.

Heaven is eternal life.

Eternal life is both:

HERE
Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" - John 10:10b, NKJV

and HEREAFTER
"And I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and recieve you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also" - John 14:3, NKJV.

HOW?....how can a person have God's forgiveness, heaven and eternal life, and Jesus as personal Savior and Lord? To answer, let's use the word FAITH again...

Forsaking All I Trust Him

The bible says, "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" - Romans 10:9 NKJV

If you understand this and would like to recieve this forgiveness by trusting in Christ as your personal Savior and Lord....say this prayer...to God, and from your heart:

Salvation Prayer

"Dear Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and that You arose from the grave. I now ask You to forgive me of my sins and to save my soul.  Amen"

Congratulations! Now what?

God's Plan...
This is very important. God's plan is for each Christian believer to grow. These are important steps toward growth as you begin your journey of FAITH:

  • READ THE BIBLE (a good place to start is the book of John)
  • PRAY
  • FELLOWSHIP with other Christians
God's Place...
God's place for doing these important things is His church and the small group Bible studies. Here you will make friends, enjoy fellowship, and grow in your faith. You will learn more about how God wants you to live each day.
We invite you to visit Manley Baptist Church. Our church and Small Groups are dedicated to offering you a place to grow and fellowship.

If you would like to discuss these things with someone please call Pastor Richard Emmert or another staff member at 423.586.8665.
